SIP vs. Lump Sum: Two Ways to Invest

How a systematic investment plan differs from a one-time investment, and what to consider.

Systematic Investment Plan (SIP)

A SIP invests a fixed amount at regular intervals, usually monthly. It fits people who earn regularly and want a disciplined habit. Because units are bought at different NAVs over time, it spreads out entry points.

Lump sum

A lump-sum investment commits a larger amount at one time, for example from a bonus or maturity proceeds. Its result depends more on market levels at the time of investing.

Which is better?

Neither is better in every situation. Consider your cash flow, how soon you need the money, and how comfortable you are with market swings. Some investors use both.

Try the SIP calculator to see how monthly amounts and time interact under an assumed return. Results are illustrative only.
